College & University Engagement

CIRCLE and Tuft University’s Tisch College in its 2020 Pre-Election Youth Poll “asked youth if they could register to vote online in their state, and a third (32%) said they did not know. Among those who answered yes or no, 25% were incorrect. In addition, only 24% of youth report having voted by mail before.”

Though voting as a college student can be complicated in the best of circumstances, the pandemic has left many students even more unsure of their status. How can I vote? Where do I technically live? Is the process of registering as a first-time voter complicated?

We work with colleges and universities to ensure that:

  • Their students have the best tools available to help them register to vote and apply for absentee ballots

  • Their students vote as safely as possible, either going to the polls early when possible to avoid crowds and minimize strain in polling stations or by voting via absentee ballot

  • Their students receive reminders to vote as the election approaches, along with non-partisan resources helping them learn about the individuals and issues on their ballots

State by state, our goal is to ensure every college and university, be they private, public, or local community college, is providing best-in-class resources to their students to maximize civic engagement and ensure their voices are heard.
